Web domains. Hosting. Content. These are the three top priorities for any webmaster, regardless of how experienced they are. Unfortunately, these three essentials often leave people in the dark, as there are dozens of companies offering the same packages for different prices. With an overflow of routes you could take, it can get mind boggling to figure out the appropriate steps. For this reason, instructions are essential if you are looking for a smooth path.

The first thing you should do is make a list of what your current goals are. If you are making a professional site, you’ll need a secure and reliable host. For instance, if you know that your website will reach thousands of people within a few months, perhaps you should find a web hosting package that includes extra bandwidth. You need additional space, especially if visitors are constantly going to be accessing your website. On the other hand, if you are just experimenting, you should stick to the free hosting packages. Geocities or Angel Fire certainly provides a basic package, which will leave you satisfied. After all, you do not need bells and whistles if you arent serious about the website in the long run. If you do end up changing your mind, you can always switch services and transfer your website.

Once you have made your decision, you need to find a reputable service. While searching for hosting companies on Google may seem appropriate, it often stems bad results. It is important to remember that just because it is listed on a search engine, doesnt mean it is 100% safe and legit. Therefore, if you do find a potential company, you should get a second opinion. It is usually smart to join a webmaster related forum like SitePoint to discuss such matters. This way you can hear about other peoples experiences and what companies to avoid. Additional references from friends or family would also be ideal.

After picking a host, you will need to provide your credit card information. For many users, 3ix.org is a favorite, as it rarely charges you much. Surprisingly, there are discount coupon codes you can acquire through the internet, to also help you with your initial fee. Due to the fact that you have to include your private information, it is absolutely crucial to make sure you find a legit business. The last thing you want is to lose any money. Therefore, you should google their name and check out the reviews from fellow users. This will most definitely make all of the difference, especially if you find out that they are a fraud.

For website beginners, web hosting doesnt have to be difficult or even too time consuming. As long as you find reputable sources, second opinions, and a great easy to use package, you are well on your way to website success. With these instructions in mind, there should be no frustrations or year long debates on what company to use. It is quite simple, once you get in the webmasters frame of mind.

One of the most crucial decisions that most online businesses have to make is choosing the best web hosting service. With a popular or well known and reliable Internet Service Provider (ISP) you wont face many problems, however with a poor web hosting service provider it can be a nightmare.

Choosing the right kind of web hosting service can be a very daunting task at times as there are some very important features that you need to make sure of. Here you can find below what exactly to look for when choosing the best web hosting service.

Amount of web space: A web hosting service provider would usually assign you a certain amount of space on their server. You need to ensure that does it have the right amount of space for your website and your business requirements. You might want to expand your online business tomorrow and would require much more space. So its imperative for you that the web hosting company should be able to provide you with ample of space especially if your website is rich in graphics or has video clips.
FTP access: FTP access is very crucial since it provides the ability to upload new pages. Some web hosting service providers allow you to just design your web pages with their own personal web builder. This may be useful for beginners however you need to ensure if they provide you the facility to expand later when you enhance your online business capabilities.
Degree of reliability, security and speed of access: Speed, security and reliability are extremely important for the success of any online business. While choosing a reliable web hosting service you need to ensure that this is taken care of. A site that is not available, not updated on time or is down, will lose many online visitors. If an online visitor finds your site listed on a search engine, and he tries to access it but finds it down, he is sure to move on to the next link and you lose an important customer or visitor. Even slow working websites are very frustrating. So how do you know if a hosting company is reliable or not? By word of mouth or feedback from others! If thats not possible then you can yourself try accessing your site during peak hours and non-peak hours too. Your site has to be secure of intruders at the same time, especially if its an ecommerce website.
Dependence and support: Does the web hosting service provide 24×7 supports? Do they respond rapidly to your issue? Can you depend on them? If you need 24-hour technical support that larger companies need then expect to pay substantially more. In fact, people are much more expensive than machines.
Pricing plans: Price is also one factor that you should look out for when choosing the best web hosting service. Its not necessarily true that the most expensive hosts are the best. Simply compare prices and services before you finalize one.
Data transfer (Bandwidth): You also need to see if the hosting company provides you with sufficient bandwidth for efficient data transfer. After all its your website and you need to ensure that you are getting the best services for the money you invest.

If you are currently engaged in any facet of ecommerce, even service sectors, a website makes up a great deal of your business. Therefore, it is a safe assumption that you pay for hosting your website in some fashion. If you do not already have a dedicated server, perhaps you should revisit the decision for the best hosting options for your business.

What is a Dedicated Server?
Most web hosting companies set up accounts or on a shared server. You essentially share the total hard drive and bandwidth allowance with many others. This may not be the best hosting option and can present many problems such as security and traffic bottlenecks. On a dedicated server, the server is completely yours, and there are not other websites utilizing the same machine. The server is dedicated completely to you and your business.

Advantages of a Dedicated Server
Several advantages can make a dedicated server the best hosting choice for you. These include:

Server Security Dedicated servers increase the security of your website tremendously. There are no other webmasters using the same workspace, and simple mistakes or user error that might occur due to shared machines simply no longer existent.

Storage Space As the entire server is dedicated to a single customer, there is tremendously more storage space available for website pages, images, and features.

Data Transfer As with storage space, there is a great deal more bandwidth available for data transfer. Traffic to your site no longer competes with traffic for other websites reducing bottlenecks and slow server response time.

Control Panel Having your own server offers additional opportunities for control. Sharing a server indicates that you have only limited control of server features and functions, but with a dedicated server, webmasters have greater control and access to the day-to-day functions of the host.

Software Options Dedicated servers also allow more software and script options. The server has greater storage capacity for this information, and there is no need to align coding or features with other users of the same machine.

Disadvantages of a Dedicated Server
The sole disadvantage of a dedicated server is the cost. It is only logical that obtaining an entire server versus a piece of a shared server would be more expensive, but the rate often makes webmasters baulk. It is important to consider the fee as related to the total cost of shared server space when determining if a dedicated server is the best hosting option for you business, despite cost. A single credit card safety incident or an exorbitant bill for bandwidth overage should level the playing field almost immediately.

Am I ready for a Dedicated Server?
Websites grow at different rates, but as the success of a business grows, so does the need for additional hosting capacity. If you are approaching the limits of your current hosting company or have concerns about safety, such as storing credit card information on the same server as others or simply if your current company is the best hosting company for your needs, it is definitely time for a dedicated server.

Wow. 2 billion torrents. That’s one for every third person in the world, or 7 per person in the US. Impressive figures by any metric, but when you consider that this second billion came only five months after the announcement of the first billion. Those in the entertainment industry that were hoping P2P File sharing would die a quiet death will be sorely disappointed. If new torrents continue to be introduced into the Mininova system at this rate, the Big Four Cartel fighting the growth will surely be swamped.

In the understatement of the year, Mininova’s blog notes that the growth is : this is very good news. You bet.

Mininova’s blog continues: It means our site is growing exponentially: the amount of total downloads roughly doubles every half year. And more downloads means more exposure, so more content available on our website. Of course this is not the end, if the growth keeps continuing we might be able to reach the 4 billion mark by the end of this year!.

Also included in the Mininova blog is a breakdown of the numbers of downloads per content category: TV shows take the number one spot with over 40% of all downloads, while music makes up just over half this with 21.1% of all downloads.

TV Shows - 40.11%

Music - 21.21%

Movies - 17.89%

Games - 6.59%

Software - 5.61%

Anime - 3.61%

Books - 3.04%

Pictures-0.53%

As Myspace exploded in popularity so did the number of websites offering free layouts and other content for use on profiles. Today there are literally thousands of Myspace resource websites out there, unfortunately most of them are nothing more but bad attempts at making money. Even more unfortunate are the sites that are very popular in terms of visitors, but got nothing to offer as far as quality content goes. For the average Myspace user, who by no means is an expert at using Google, Yahoo or MSN, getting through to the quality resource sites can be difficult.

Among all the bad resource websites there are also several good ones. One of them is Zoodu.com. If you are looking for high quality and unique abstract myspace layouts, it is a good place to go. The site also offers plenty of well sorted myspace tweak codes, a lot of graphics and many generators and flash tools, one of my personal favorites are the different countdown clock generators. The site is filled with unique quality content and is also regularly updated.

So while it can be difficult to find the good resource websites sometimes, it’s not impossible. It is just to keep looking, and not trust Google to put the best sites first.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Management (SEM), or as it is sometimes called Search Engine Maintenance, is in an industry unto itself. While it seems that this would all be a part of the web design service industry, this is virtually impossible for most web design firms as the customized SEO/SEM components of commercial web development projects are by themselves a full time job with years of research involved.

Not for Taree Internet SEO Company who not only ranks top 5 for “SEO Company”, but is amongst the top 25 in the world for the ultra competitive term “SEO” which is targeted by the industries best. We opened our doors only a few months ago, but have immediately beaten teams of the industry’s biggest names who have been trying for years to nudge their way in to the top 50!

SEO starts at the design level, as internal linking structure and anchor text play a critical role in how optimized your site is for Search Engines. Taree Internet has the upper hand on most SEO Companies as we specialize in both Design and SEO, with several years experience in both fields.

If you get either of these components wrong you may as well be shoveling horse poop into the wind with your mouth open. You will make little if any progress, and end up with nothing but a bad taste in your mouth.

Drop by our site, did I mention we even do Logo Design as well as having free resources, scripts and tutorials in our SEO Forum where you can even learn a bit about Search Engine Optimization yourself.

Did you know out of over EIGHT BILLION web pages known to be on the Internet, ONLY 27% of them are even catalogued in the Google database! So is it any wonder that most business owners with websites are currently disappointed by their website’s results?

And while you are busy running your business, how much time do you have for that extra full time job with homework that is required to understand how to fix the problem?

If you’re looking for a leading Search Engine Optimization Company, that offers maximum Return On Investment then feel free to visit Taree Internet to make your site work for you!

If you own an online business then you will know the safety of your website is of highest importance. You want your users to believe that your uk web hosting is safe and they are confident their connection to your site is safe also. In this case an SSL Certificate is advantageous as it enables encryption of private data that is communicated between your site and the client that is using it. An SSL Certificate generates a secure stream which encrypts the data throughout sending, and as these certificates are issued by trusted sources your clients will be confident that the padlock icon means their information will be secure.

A requirement for setting up an SSL Certificate on your domain is that your domain is hosted on a dedicated IP address, if you have a reseller hosting account with NetHosted then you would have one or more IP’s included. These can also be added to shared hosting accounts and additional dedicated IP’s can be added to reseller hosting accounts too, these can be purchased through the Order Account Addons area in your client area. You order the SSL Certificate at the same time as the IP, or individually again via the Order Account Addons section.

Once you have ordered the certificate you will need to submit some data to us via a support email, this information is needed to create a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). The CSR is required to install an SSL Certificate and the information that is needed is as follows:

Email Address:
Address (www.domain.com):
First line of postal address:
Country letters (GB?):
State:
City:
Post Code:
Company Name:
Company Division:
Password:

Once this information has been received and payment sent the SSL Certificate can be set up on your web hosting account for you and your domain will be secured, displaying the padlock icon to customers which assures them that your website is genuine and credible.

The sudsy days of dot-com bubble stocks have been over for years. If you want to make it as a publicly traded Internet company today, you need profitable growth and a defendable moat. That is great news for investors, who have to sift through a less cluttered minefield of potential opportunities, but it’s not foolproof.

In a nutshell, some Internet stocks are better than others. You know that, of course, but I’m going to get into the Olympian swing by singling out the three Internet stocks that I feel are worthy of wearing medals around their necks.

You may agree. You may disagree. We’ll get into that later, but for now I hear the “do no evil” anthem starting, so let’s turn our attention to the podium where the awards are being handed out.

Gold: Google
Good luck awarding the top prize in this event to anyone other than Google (Nasdaq: GOOG). Big G earned it, as the world’s leading search engine and the runaway champ in online advertising.

One crown goes with other, naturally. Responding to search queries provides the juiciest opportunity to deliver credible leads to high-paying sponsors. A smaller player like Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) may pride itself on serving up a ton of page views through sticky applications like email or photo-sharing site Flickr, but Google knows that the key to monetizing the Web isn’t about keeping people around as much as sending them away to advertisers.

Google’s latest quarter shows that the company’s model is still rocking. Revenue for the period soared 39% to $5.37 billion, with earnings increasing 34% to $1.25 billion, or $3.92 a share. Google isn’t perfect. It is, at its very heart, a media advertising company, and that isn’t a very attractive sector in this stingy economy. Google has missed Wall Street’s profit targets in three of the past five quarters, including last month’s second-quarter report.

However, until proven otherwise, it’s hard to give the gold to any other company. Between its market-dominant position in search and its cloud-computing initiatives, Google will continue to be a juggernaut in the industry and a thorn in the sides of its rivals.

Silver: Baidu.com
One of the few places on the planet where Google isn’t a market leader just happens to be the world’s most populous nation. China’s version of Google is Baidu.com (Nasdaq: BIDU), the spunky local favorite that has managed to keep Google down as it commands roughly two-thirds of the country’s search market.

Baidu is making the most of China’s booming economy. Revenue doubled in its latest quarter. Earnings rose by 87%, and would have doubled if not for the company’s capital investments in Japan as it tries to grow its search-engine reach beyond China.

Baidu may not seem cheap, at 43 times next year’s earnings, but go back a paragraph and reread the part about the company’s heady growth rates. China lapped the United States this summer in terms of the number of Internet users, and it’s just getting warmed up. Just a fifth of the country is online at the moment. You have to like the Chinese search engines — like Baidu, Google, and Sohu.com’s (Nasdaq: SOHU) Sogou — at this moment. China’s stock market may be out of favor, but the fundamentals of its search-engine rock stars continue to improve. Take the silver, Baidu, and get back to me in a few years about trading that up for a gold.

Bronze: eBay
My third medalist may not be a popular choice. I can’t seem to mention the company’s name without my email filling up with angry power sellers who have bolted from the namesake site. The company also overpaid for Web chat leader Skype. Sure, but what has eBay done for you lately?

The company’s most recent quarter was sound. Revenue and net income grew by roughly 20%. Even if listings have slowed at eBay.com, the company still has the financial-transactions market leader in PayPal. It also has a very robust global portfolio of online classifieds websites, attracting 74 million monthly unique visitors who go through nearly 3 billion pages a month.

If you want to go region-specific, you will find faster-growing marketplaces like Gmarket (Nasdaq: GMKT) in South Korea, and MercadoLibre (Nasdaq: MELI) in Brazil and Argentina. However, eBay is the global giant (and also happens to own a chunk of MercadoLibre).

So stand tall and proud on that podium, medal recipients. Your hard work has paid off

With the rapid pace of development in medical technology, some doctors have turned to the Web to supplement textbooks and journals and created medical wikis. Naturally, wikis aren’t to be regarded as the final word on any medical topic; rather, they’re facilitators of discussion and starting-off points for more research.

So you’re looking for medical advice. Would you: a) call your doctor, b) consult a medical journal or c) go to a wiki?

Perhaps surprisingly, many people are beginning to go the wiki route. At least, they’re starting with wikis, and maybe after that they’re calling their doctors, reading journals, or otherwise getting second and third opinions. And for those who aren’t queasy about turning to medical wikis, there are plenty out there from which to choose.
Flu Info

If you’re interested in finding out more about the flu, for instance, a good place to turn is Flu Wiki, which was cofounded in 2005 by Greg Dworkin, M.D., a pediatric pulmonologist at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Conn.

He and several colleagues realized that there wasn’t a central place to go for comprehensive information about flu viruses, both the garden varieties and the pandemic ones, so they sought to create a site that could be a go-to place for people wanting to get more information. Such information would be particularly helpful, they reasoned, if a flu pandemic struck.

At the time, Dworkin told LinuxInsider, there were no governmental Web sites that provided such information, and they hoped that FluWiki would fill that gap.

“At the time we started it, no one else was doing it,” Dworkin said. “There wasn’t a lot of reliable Rackspace now offers green hosting solutions at the same cost without sacrificing performance. Make the eco-friendly choice. information out there about the flu.”

They thought the wiki model, which allows users to post and edit information on the site, would be a good one in particular for a topic such as the flu.

“We thought the contributions ought to be put together by everyone, because something as wide-ranging as a pandemic involves more than just the health department,” Dworkin told LinuxInsider. “If you have to close the schools down in a pandemic, parents have to know where to pick up their kids. They need to know where they can get food and electricity. It goes well beyond the virus itself.”

In the intervening years, the U.S. government has started some of its own flu information sites, including PandemicFlu.gov, which pulls together information from a variety of governmental agencies. However, Dworkin said the FluWiki is still a valuable resource, and it’s actually linked to by official government sites. He also said that it has prompted the government to take the distribution of flu information more seriously.

“One of the things we have accomplished is pushing governmental entities to be more transparent,” Dworkin continued. “I’m not sure there would have even been a PandemicFlu.gov if it hadn’t been for our site.”

In order to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the site, Dworkin and other editors monitor its content daily, removing or correcting any false information.

“The information there is pretty accurate,” he said. “This is the wisdom of crowds. Everyone gets a chance to look at it. If there’s false information, it needs to be corrected.”
Doctors Without Electronic Borders

Another site, AskDrWiki, began as a community for health professionals to share information, and it maintains its identity as a “collective online memory for physicians, nurses and medical students.”

Kenny Civello, M.D., founded the site in 2007 with several other fellows at the Cleveland Clinic, and its purpose was to share information, journal articles, and things the physicians were learning as they treated patients. Now a cardiologist at a hospital in Baton Rouge, La., Civello is watching the site expand beyond its original intentions.

“It was started to share information between associates in cardiology,” Civello told LinuxInsider. “I didn’t intend it to be shared throughout the world, but it took on a life of its own.”

Now it’s grown to include other specialties, and it’s even getting some hits from members of the general public looking to increase their medical knowledge. Some of the most important attributes of his wiki, according to Civello, are that it is current and easily accessible.

“It’s something that has potential to provide up-to-date medical information,” Civello told LinuxInsider. “I have a wall of textbooks, but sometimes you need more current information. A textbook costs (US)$300, and by the time it comes out, it’s out of date.”

Because only verified and approved physicians can post to the site, its information is relatively reliable, professional and accurate. Civello edits and moderates postings, and on occasion he has had to decline posting information that was inaccurate or inappropriate for the site.

Civello said that the real benefit of a site like this is that it brings the practice of medicine into the technologically-savvy 21st century.

“Medicine has lagged behind other professions in its use of technology,” he said. “Whatever we can do to make things more efficient, we should do.”
Cutting In

Even surgery is getting in on the wiki act. One such site, WikiSurgery lets physicians post information about surgical techniques, methods, and research.

“I wanted to use the power of a wiki for surgical knowledge,” the site’s founder, Dr. Riaz Agha, a London-based physician who is also the editor of the International Journal of Surgery, told LinuxInsider. “Doctors need an online resource that they can access at any time in a hospital. In the old days they would rely on books, but these get out of date, and pages go missing, so a wiki provides a great opportunity to close that information gap.”

The information that finds its way onto WikiSurgery, according to Agha, goes through a vetting process that makes it as reliable and as accurate as possible, which is vital for a topic as highly technical and specialized as surgery.

“Only authors we approve are allowed to post,” Agha told LinuxInsider. “They have to submit a CV (curriculum vitae) of their credentials, be approved by the site editors and also confirm their e-mail Learn how you can enhance your email marketing program today. Free Trial - Click Here. address. When an article is posted, it can be approved by an editor and this status is shown.”

Of course, as with all wikis, it’s up to users of the site to verify any information they find there, and to use the wiki as a starting — not an ending — point in their research.

“There is a disclaimer on the site, and people should not base their final decisions solely on information from a wiki but should utilize it to stay informed and shape discussion with colleagues and between patients and health care professionals,” Agha said. “No wiki can be 100 percent accurate all the time.”

NEW DELHI: The hunt for information on the internet has been synonymous with Google. The search engine has maintained a clear lead over Yahoo and Microsoft, the number two and three players, respectively, in web search. While earlier attempts by Microsoft Corp and Yahoo Inc to join forces against Google failed, a team of former Google engineers and others who worked at eBay, IBM and AltaVista have come up with an alternative called Cuil (pronounced cool).

Cuil plans to not only break the monopoly of Google, but also change the surfing culture among users. ET decided to experience the new web search engine cuil.com.

Cuil, which precisely means knowledge in Irish, is a start-up by led by husband-wife team Tom Costello (CEO of Cuil) and Anna Patterson, president, along with former colleagues Russell Power, vice-president of engineering, and Louis Monier, vice-president of products. Cuil has got venture funding of about $30 million from Tugboat Ventures, Greylock Partners and Madrone Capital Partners.

At Cuil, search index spans over 120 billion web pages, which is much larger than any existing search engine including Google (almost thrice its index span). The results are based on content and relevance. Popularity and audience traffic take a backseat.

So, a prerequisite like a Wikipedia option in various search engines among the top search results can be simply pushed back to later pages in Cuil. However, those looking for quick grasp of the content might find it cumbersome. When the user types a query, sometimes search suggestions appear with an icon representing a website leading directly to it.

As one logs into the landing page comprising a black open space, it appears to be countering the energy-saving version of Google, Blackle, though there are no menu options for images, maps, videos and news like its competitors. If simply looking for web results, then it’s not a problem. Besides, each result is supplemented with related photographs.

However, when specifically tracing images, maps or a news peg, the task might prove a little laborious. The results are an exhaustive spread across two or three columns, according to user’s choice and include a whole list of related search options.

Though Cuil claims the largest web-page index, for most queries it displayed fewer total results than competitors. Google and Yahoo let the user page through all of the results while Cuil significantly limits what one can see, offering about 23 pages of results in total.

When you give a search at Cuil website, along with pertinent results there are options of related tabs and ‘explore by category’ options. In the latter option, a list of subjects related to user’s search appear. If one rolls over a category, it will open and show refinements related to the search and on clicking one of them, you will be directed to this additional information.

By looking at these suggestions, users may discover search data, concepts, or related areas of interest not expected. For instance, on searching for BSE, along with desired results there are options to check in companies listed on the BSE, various stock indices in the world, important companies based in Mumbai, etc. Similarly, an Infosys search throws up various other important software companies into IT services, offshoring, IT consulting firms, etc.

Another interesting aspect of Cuil is the safe search option which filters all possible ‘obscene’ results. Of course, the definition being relative. Also, there is no tab on user search pattern and history. Cuil does not fix spellings and provide results as you type the key words, unlike Google. So, chances are if one types ‘Now Delhi’ instead of ‘New Delhi’, Cuil will still get quite a few desired results without any spelling suggestions!

Indexing more pages, providing relevant results and slicker presentation are the features which Cuil is banking on to attract users. It remains to be seen whether it’s able to strike the right chord among users.
